Even though TH has been neglecting Austria, two girls are sticking to them. And that by producing their own fanzine. Awesome...
What would a band be without their fans? Just a couple of dudes that are wasting their time with music! Most fans are supporting their favorite band by buying their CDs or tickets to their concerts. Some fans are getting creative and craft posters with slogans like "i want your baby" or "marry me". And then there's two girls from vienna: Leo, 23, and Lis, 25, are producing their own magazine "Monsun".
STALKING. Leo and Lis are following their favorite band all through europe. "Besides Vienna and a couple of gigs in Germany, we've been to London, Amsterdam, Paris, Rome and Geneve. Germany was the best, probably because the hype's the biggest there, but no matter where we go, the fans are singing along with the band everywhere, even in Italy" the two of them say. During the last tour, they've had the idea to make their own fanzine.
THE MAGAZINE. XPress was the first austrian magazine to hold Monsun in the hands. And we say: totally awesome. The texts are funny and there's plenty of self-made pictures in it. An absolute must-have for all Tokio Hotel fans. Read all about how the magazine was made, the workload behind it and how you can get your hands on it right here.
2ND JOB. Leo and Lis have made a lot of friendships, also of the international kind, during their Tokio Hotel time. That's how they also get articles and pictures on a regular basis and that's the stuff being published in Monsun - literally by fans for fans. The content consists of lots of backstage reports and infos on the band on tour. The text is something the fans gotta get used to - the Tokio boys usually get mocked a bit and their life is being commented in a rather sarcastic way. But also non-german speaking fans can read it - the texts are not only written in german but there's also an english 1:1 translation in the magazine. Only shortcoming: due to printing-costs, the printed issues of the magazine are only available for press and the record company so far. But Monsun can be downloaded for free on the homepage www.monsunmagazin.com. It's definitely worth reading!

EDITORS IN CHIEF
What brought on the idea to make Monsun?
Leo: Our love for Tokio Hotel's music of course. Sadly, the last tour was cancelled due to Bill's operation. Since we've wanted to accompany the band to Kopenhagen and had already bought our flight tickets, we ended up going nevertheless. Sitting in our hotel room, we've had the idea to do a fanzine. It took us 3 months to get the first issue ready and we distributed it to fanclubs in austria and germany as well as over myspace.com. that was pretty fast.
How are you working on the magazine? What kinda work are you putting into it?
Lis: we either think of something to write about recent topics or we're using our TH network to get new infos. Fans all over the world are sending their articles to us and if we like them, we publish them in the magazine. A friend of ours is printing 20 copies of each issue for us that we're distributing to publishers and our interview partners. Everyone can download their issue for free our hompage www.monsunmagazin.com and we've had over 7000 downloads up to today!
What is it that fans and readers can expect of Monsun?
Leo: Monsun isn't really your typical TH magazine - we're focusing on the fans. They're writing about the concerts they've been to, fanactions and about the constantly growing fan community and that's what it's all about: we're not only dedicated to TH because of the music but because we've made so many friends thanks to the band. That's how Monsun works: every fan who writes an article is making other fans to maybe join us and partipate as well. That's also how the "Stammtisch" came to life.
You got your own TH "Stammtisch"?
Leo: yep, exactly. We're currently around 10 people who are meeting up on a monthly basis. Besides talking about TH, we also end up meeting up to go to the cinema or ice-skating and we're always open to new members. More infos here: http://th-stammtisch.bplaced.net.
What's your opinion on TH and their success in america?
Lis: every european band wants to make it big in the USA, that's totally understandable. We're not disappointed or angry that TH have tried that as well and succeeded! We just don't want them to forget about the german speaking fans - we're the ones who made them as big as they're now.
